General Scope
The city that is the capital of Russian federation has 12 million population. Moscow is the one of the most expensive cities in the world. Moscow is a city that has the most number of billionares. More than 90% of Moscow consist of Russians. While having more than 77 sister cities, it is twin cities with Turkey's; Adana, Antalya and İzmir. Because Moscow is visa-free, it is easy to go and see the city.
Short History
Russian Federation was USSR until 1991. Before that, it was called Russian Empire until 1917. Earlier, it was Tsarist Russia. In that time, Moscow has faced revolutions, revolts, executions, political and communal events; was built in 1755. After the 1917 Russian Revolution, it became capital of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 12 March 1918. Then, it became the capital of USSR and now it is the capital of Russian Federation.
Climate
With a mild continental climate, the city's temperature can drop to -20 degrees in winter. However, in normal conditions it's weather is betwen -5 and -10. In summer, the temperature is between 20 and 25. With its climate being like this, Moscow can live four seasons in one year.
Local Foods
The food called Pelmeni and mantı is very much alike. They put mushroom, chicken or meat inside the dough and it is boiled. But it is larger than mantı.
Solyanka is the most famous soup of Russian and Moscow cousin. The soup which has spiced meat or fish is more intense than our soups.
Zakuski is an aperatif that is eaten before the main course in Moscow. Zakuska that often consists of pickles, pickled beets and fish.
Salty Pirojiki is a small snack that is sold in the entrance of metro stations.
Bev Stroganov is a very famous meatdish of the Moscow cousine. It looks like beef stew.
Tourism, Culture and Art
Moscow with its Red Square, Saint Basil's Cathedral, Kremlin Palace, Lenin's Mausolea, Moskova Metro, historical GUM shopping centre and variety of touristic and historical places is one of the leading cities.
Red Square; Russia's heart; Red Square which is Moscow classical places sometimes is called "Beautiful Square". This square, It has been the scene of all the social and political events at the beginning of Russia. While it is also a part of UNESCO World Heritage List, it is spread over an area of approximately 70,000 square meters square. In the one corner of the Red Square, there is GUM shopping centre. In the other corner, there is Saint Basil's Cathedral.
Saint Basil's Cathedral; When someone says Russia and Moscow, the first thing comes to minds are their famous for its colorful onion domes of cathedrals. This cathedral, has been built by Ivan the Terrible in 1555. Ivan the Terrible wanted to build this cathedral for the moment of his victories. In 1561, it has been completed and opened for worship. Rumour has it that Ivan the Terrible blinded architects for prevent them to build any artifact as beatiful as this cathedral.
Kremlin Palace; Kremlin Palace which was built near the Moscow River in the 12th century has been a sign of power for centuries. Kremlin means castle in Russian.
The construction of Great Belfry of Ivan which is also located in the Kremlin Palace has started in 1505 and completed in 1600. However, the bell which has fallen because of a major fire has been fixed in the place it has fallen and for the second time when it fall, it has been left in that place. The bell which is known as Tsar's Bell is the biggest bell of the world.
Lenin's Mausolea; Mausolea which is located in the Red Square is in the shape of granit and inside of that there is Lenin's mummified corpse. GUM shopping centre; The shopping centre which is one of the most elegant places of Red Square was built 120 years ago.
Moscow Metro; It is one of the oldest and the biggest metro. There are thousands of people who visit this metro every year. The metro which is used as a sanctuary during World War II, it accepted as the most beatiful metro of earth for its interior design and decoration. There are 9 million passengers have been travelling everyday in 182 stations of the metro. This also makes Moscow metro the world's most passenger carrying metro.
Novedeviç Cemetery; The cemetery which was built in 18th century by Peter the Great is a place near New Girl Monastry where so many politicians, artist and football players have been resting. Also, the our famous poet Nazım Hikmet Ran's grave is in there.
Red Hill Holiday: Holiday that celebrates the beginning of Spring. It is organized in the beginng of April on Sunday. Most Muscovite chooses this day to get married.
Kremlin Cup: Tenis Tournament which lasts 8 day. It starts in the beginning of October.
Moscow International Film Festival: International Film Festival which is done in June.
